Happy Halloween-Day 31

Happy Halloween

Todays drawing is an homage to the day as well as the wonderful prickly pears in my garden.  I think that to do them justice one needs to draw them regularly.  I thank you all for following this journey that that Pamela Lee and I have been on for the month of October.  It has been such a treat to share this experience with my good friend as well as each of you and I so appreciate all the comments, observations and words of encouragement from all of you.  Thanks.

My Back Gate-Day 30

My Back Gate
I love all the gates and interesting doors that are a part of my Arizona house.  I have always wanted to try and capture them in a drawing and it wasn't until today that I had the courage to try.  Arizona is so full of life and color especially where you least expect it.

Space and Gesture-Day 29

Space and Gesture
Today's drawing is about gesture and the space around an object.  There is a very different feel to an image depending on the placement of the image in space.  This object seems to be hugging the left side of the page as well as searching for the light.

Space 2-Day 28

Space 2
Today I was working with the space around 3 pots, below the pots and above the pots as well as the various shapes created by the space.  I wonder what an ant would do with all this space and nooks and crannies?

Space 1-Day 27

Space 1
Today was an experimental day.  A good friend suggested/requested that I play around with objects or things in space so this is my attempt at doing so.  Will stay with this idea for the next few drawings and see what evolves.  This idea has endless possibilities playing with shapes and color.

Lemon or Lime-Day 26

Lemon or Lime

Upon arriving at the house in AZ I was thrilled to see that my "lemon" tree was in full bloom with lots of fruit on it.  They say it is a lemon tree but the fruit sure looks like a lime to me.  Now to cook with these gorgeous limes!!!

Black Pot-Day 25

Black Pot
This is a drawing I did as an extra before leaving Tahoe as I knew that on this day I would not be able to draw after driving all day.  The geraniums are still hanging in on the deck as fall descends all around.

Pure Gold-Day 24

Pure Gold-Day 24
I decided that since today will be my last Tahoe drawing that I would combine all of the elements in previous drawings and update it to what is going on outside today.  The trees are all pure gold and very sparse.  The ground cover is still green, the pine needles are numerous and the one lone daisy is still hanging in there.  A lot could change tomorrow with snow on its way and the drawings for the remainder of the challenge will be very different as we head to AZ.  It will be fun to see what what inspires me there.

Tuscan Pot-Day 23

Tuscan Pot
This is the bottom half of yesterdays droopy petals.  The leaves are also a little droopy maybe even a little tired.  We all know how this feels from time to time.  Or another way of looking at the image is the leaves as they lean towards the earth are balancing the flowers/petals that reach for the sun.  As I write this I think we are in the middle of an eclipse of the sun!  Go figure. I think I also could have used  a larger piece of paper to really capture the total essence of the plant.

Droopy-Day 22

Droopy
I don't think I was feeling droopy when I did this drawing but the leaves on this orchid sure were drooping and I loved the idea of trying to capture the petals in their final hours.  It is time to say good bye to this lovely orchid which has brought a lot of beauty to our dining room table.

A good friend suggested that if you rotate the drawing-it is not droopy at all.  That is the fun thing about making art-there are so many ways of looking at things.  Thank you Kathy E.

30 Degrees-Day 21

30 Degrees-Day 21
Who would think that these colors are still around in 30 degrees?  and I hear there is snow on the mountain tops!   Brrrr-it is very chilly outside.

Chasing Moon Beams-Day 20

Chasing Moon Beams
That is what it felt like today as I was trying to capture the leaves blowing in the wind.  It was very breezy and the leaves were desperately hanging on for dear life.  The good news is that they are still hanging on to the their branches so I have a few more drawings to do of these wonderful fall trees and leaves!

Loves Me-Loves Me Not-Day 19

Loves Me-Loves Me Not

One lone daisy is out there with all the falling leaves and happily so.  It is amazing what you see when you are looking for new shapes and colors.  Sure surprised me.

Check out Pamela's drawing today!  Really spectacular!

Fading Petunia's-Day 18

Fading Petunia's
The petunia's and the other potted flowers on the deck are hanging in there as summer fades away.  We too are ready to head south to AZ in another week.  No doubt my drawings will have a different flavor as I view the desert.

Orange at the Top-Day 17

Orange at the Top
I am really observing the colors of the trees and where the color is within the tree.  It is so interesting how with  the maple trees the leaves are turning orange at the top and slowly working it's way downward.  There is still lots of green and yellow left to enjoy!

Halfway ++ - Day 16

Halfway ++
I am more than halfway to 31 drawings and the aspens have certainly lost more than half of their leaves.  The maple trees as well as the pine trees are still green meaning there is plenty of inspiration for more drawings to come.

Windy Windy-Day 15

Windy Windy

The wind is really blowing and the leaves are falling.  It looks very wintery outside and I seem to capture spring time in this drawing.  What is with that??  The fall colors are still very vibrant adding life and energy to the closing down of summer!

Be sure and check out Pamela's drawings on her blog at the link below.

Day 13 & Day14

Lemonade-Day13
Today's drawing was a tough go as I had something in mind I wanted to convey but the drawing had other ideas so we made lemonade out of the lemon juicer!

Jumping Jelly Beans - Day 14

Today was a lot more fun.  No preconceived expectations just a fun time in the sketch book hence the name of the drawing.

Inside Time-Day 12

It was quite cool outside today so I was ready to come inside and I wanted a change of subject matter.  That being said I see I used the same colors that have been in the aspens and the maples-must like these colors.

Enjoy!

On the Ground-Day 11

The leaves are  falling quickly now.  Soon there will be no leaves left on the trees and I will have to find something else to inspire me.  In the meantime I am having fun especially since I found my old drawing box today with lots of new colors to play with.  I do love the materials.

Falling Leaves-Day 10

The trees are becoming more bare by the day but there are enough leaves left for inspiration.  I just hope it stays warm enough to sit outside and to try and capture these waning days of autumn.

Burning Bushes-Day 9

Burning Bushes-Day 9
I think the image says it all.  I love the red and green of fall

October Full Moon-Day 8

I had to try and capture the power and enormity of this October moon.  It looked huge out there in space as it was coming up over the mountain and tree tops.  Really spectacular and so fun to try and capture.  I did not stay up for the eclipse as I need my beauty sleep.  I am sure it was special! Enjoy!

Jardin des Tuileries-Day 7

Before I headed out to draw I was inspired by an article I was reading about autumn in Paris. Oh I wish I could be there but Tahoe is equally special in the fall.   So I kept Paris in mind as I drew and listened to a french music.  This is the burning red of fall that glows so brightly in Tahoe

Aspen Family-Day 6

Another glorious day for sitting outside and trying to capture the aspens and the maple tree.  The only negative was the squirrel overhead sending pine cone shards and pine cones down at me as I was definitely on his/her turf.  This squirrel was not a happy camper but I was very happy to just sit there and draw and fortunately he/she missed!

One and Only Red-Day 5

This was the only red tree around our house.  As I walked the neighborhood today I saw lots of interesting trees with lots of color for another day.  The colors are changing fast so I need to hurry.  I do love being outside and find it very relaxing which helps me to get into the drawing and out of my head.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Aspen-Day 4

Fall is here in Tahoe and the aspens are changing colors as well as flittering in the breeze.  This particular tree did  not have has much orange in the leaves as I like so I just added my own.  That is the fun of art you can make it whatever you want and there is no right or wrong!

Moon Over Tahoe- Day 3

I was outside with the dog last night and was so
taken with the moon that I knew I needed to try and capture what I saw and how it made me feel.  There is a lot to be said for the Nike saying Just Do It.  I made myself do something that a little voice inside me was saying this is way too scary.  Oh well I guess that is because it is October and close to Halloween and really  now it is only charcoal.

And this is what happens to an upside down moon.

Trick or Treat-Day 2

Drawing #2

Trick or Treat which will it be.  All I know is that I am having great fun pushing myself to do this each day.  Thank you Pamela for doing this with me!

Double Take-Drawing 1 for the October Drawing a Day Challenge with my dear friend Pamela!

This is all the same drawing for the first drawing of the daily drawing challenge.  As I was downloading the photo of my drawing to iPhoto I loved how the drawing looked different in different positions so I wanted to share these three.  This is a wonderful reminder that things are not always what they seem.

Inspiration

I am so excited because I feel like I am reclaiming how I like to draw and paint.  Lots of gesture.  I have always loved doing gestures of the human figure as well as gesture in my paintings but for some reason I have gotten away from doing this.  I am back and it feels so freeing. Enjoy this fun little drawing-can you guess what it is/was!!!!???

Saturday, February 22, 2014

What is this?? I am not really sure but it seems whimsical to me.  I am thinking of doing a painting from this drawing.  The hard part is keeping the same or similar essence of the drawing but that being said I have to try!

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

My favorite still life never lets me down as I get lost in the drawing process.  I am always amazed at what shows up on the paper which is what I love to do.  I have always loved surprises and creating art is a constant surprise for me.

Earth flower!

I love the energy in this little drawing.  It is so much fun to let go and let the drawing do the talking.  I am inspired and am having fun just doing the work.  Such a simple idea-one has to do the work or it doesn't happen.
